
Japan-based mobile operator NTT DoCoMo has firmed up its expansion plans and intends to introduce a 4G mobile network based on the long term evolution (LTE) standard next year. The service provider recently awarded Alcatel-Lucent a contract for supplying a mobile backhaul network for the LTE service using its Ethernet transmission solution. Meanwhile, NTT DoCoMo is also scouting for investments in other Asian markets in order to offset the sluggish growth in its domestic market.
