
Nokia Communications, the Finland-based telecom handset maker, has stated that it will suspend operations at its manufacturing facility in India from November 1, 2014. The company has a manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai.
Nokia has decided to close thefacility on account of the termination of the transitional service agreement (TSA) with Microsoft, which expires on November 1, 2014. Nokia had entered into a TSA with Microsoft so to continue operations at the facility. It had signed a TSA for the manufacturing plant as it was not a part of Microsoft?s acquisition of Nokia due to the latter?s tax dispute of Rs 210 billion with the government.
The company will soon be informing the labour commission about the factory shut down, which currently has around 1,200- 1,500 employees.
