South African cellular operator Vodacom has increased its stake in wireless broadband firm WBS, the iBurst holding company, to 24.9 per cent by exercising a call option to acquire 14.9 per cent of WBS.

south African cellular operator Vodacom has increased its stake in wireless broadband firm WBS, the iBurst holding company, to 24.9 per cent by exercising a call option to acquire 14.9 per cent of WBS. The acquisition is widely seen as a strategic move to get access to WBS’s 2.5 GHz Wi-Max spectrum, which Vodacom is using to roll out ADSL and leased line replacement services.
