Singapore-based telecom service provider Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) and Taiwan-based telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom have awarded Mitsubishi Electric a $131 million contract to build a telecom satellite to be shared between the two operators. The operators currently share a ST-1 satellite, also developed by Mitsubishi Electric, which will be replaced by a new ST-2 satellite. SingTel will use the satellite facilities to increase its coverage in emerging markets in the Middle East.

SingTel has a fleet of six satellites and has access to another 30 satellites worldwide.
