DoT has cleared a proposal from Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) to divest about 30 per cent stake in Bharti Hexacom, a JV between Bharti Airtel and TCIL. If TCIL sells its stake, Bharti Airtel will be able to increase its stake in the JV from the current 68 per cent, by exercising its option of right of first refusal. Bharti had earlier expressed interest in acquiring the stake in TCIL but could not do so because of the government’s refusal.
