BT has acquired the California-based company Ribbit for $105 B million. Ribbit combines telephony and internet technologies to help developers create new voice applications. In spite of 40 per cent of its developers being US based, the company found BT to be the company of choice for the takeover, as it will enable Ribbit to expand its VOIP network and gain a global presence. This will ensure improved scalability and extend the company’s footprint. It will also enable users to communicate across devices and networks without being bound to a specific carrier, contract or device manufacturer.
