MTNL is likely to receive an ILD licence by the end of 2007. It had applied for the licence through Millennium Telecom Limited (MTL), which is a JV between MTNL and BSNL.

MTNL, which currently routes its ILD traffic through VSNL, has recently floated a Rs 16 billion tender to lay its own submarine cable. The cable network will extend from India to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
