VSNL is planning to spend $200 million to set up an intra-Asia submarine cable system linking Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan, with an additional connection to the Philippines and possibly Vietnam.

The cable system will be built by Tyco Telecommunications, a subsidiary of VSNL.
