The COAI has opposed TRAI’s recommendations on the licence terms and conditions on several counts. According to the COAI, TRAI has not followed the correct procedure for deciding the guidelines and has acted in a non-transparent manner. While TRAI’s recommendations will help new players to access spectrum, the existing operators will be denied additional frequency.
As per TRAI’s guidelines, the number of subscribers required for an additional 1 MHz of spectrum has been increased by two to six times. The COAI has also asked DoT to hike the spectrum prices for GSM players.
