Motorola has announced the launch of the FOMA M1000, which it claims is the world’s first Wi-Fi-integrated WCDMA and GSM/GPRS dual-mode smartphone, developed jointly with Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo. The M1000 will be available in Japan from July 2005, and provides features such as international roaming, full internet browsing and high quality voice and video communications. The product also points at the increasing acceptance of foreign vendors on the part of DoCoMo in order to ease the pressure of competition in market share from KDDI.
