According to S Krishnan, secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the centre is working on a new scheme for supporting Indian electronics brands.

The scheme will focus on building globally recognised electronics brands and creating an electronics ecosystem, replacing the previous scheme for promotion of manufacturing electronic components and semiconductors (SPECS) scheme and will target Indian companies.

So far, the government has made several efforts to boost the semiconductor industry including production linked incentives (PLI) by creating large manufacturing/assembly facilities, and end design linked incentives supporting the designing ecosystem. In addition, there was a huge positive spillover from global chip designing companies in India, creating new startups.
