The theft of remote radio units has impacted the business of telecom service providers like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone India Limited (Vi) in West Bengal.

According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which has lodged complaints with police stations across the state, telecom companies have been facing financial loss since they were being forced to reinstall the equipment to provide seamless 4G and 5G connectivity.

As per the data, over 17,000 units have been stolen, and the value of the stolen equipment stands at Rs 5-7 billion.
