BSNL is in the process of finalising its plan to lay optical fibre cable (OFC) through Bangladesh to connect Northeast India with the rest of the world. The company has completed the necessary survey from Tripura’s capital Agartala to Bangladesh’s border town of Akhaurah (12 km). Another ongoing survey is for a cable from Chittagong in southeast Bangladesh to Ashuganj in eastern Bangladesh. The entire field assessment is likely to be completed by end-2010, after which BSNL will submit its report to the government for approvals.
