ZTE Corporation has decided to put its plans to lower remuneration of its Indian employees on the backburner, say news reports.

The company has deferred the pay cuts of its workforce owing to strong protests from its employees. This move was being undertaken by ZTE with the aim to optimise its resources.

Earlier, in a board meeting in August, the company had proposed a temporary 20 per cent pay cut for senior Indian executives drawing a fixed monthly salary of more than Rs 0.15 million and a 12-20 per cent cut for expat Chinese employees.

In fact, ZTE’s senior management had agreed to contribute a part of their salary to the company. Also, the proposed cut in salaries was going to be a temporary move.

ZTE has about 1,600 workers in India, about 1,000 of which are direct staff and 560 are indirect staffers who are not on the company’s rolls.
