Wiom has raised Rs 1.4 billion ($17 million) in a Series A round led by RTP Global. Companies like YourNest and Omidyae Network India also participated in the event along with Blume Founders Fund, Global Brain, Alteria Capital and 11 other unicorns.

Wiom is planning on expanding its footprint in cities throughout India while investing in high-quality talent and distributed delivery architecture. The company is aiming to democratise access to affordable internet by leveraging the Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface, which will aim at providing affordable internet access to 500 million Indians in the next five years.

Wiom’s customers can get access to affordable and unlimited internet starting at Rs 10. Meanwhile, according to RTP Global, Wiom is uniquely positioned to capture the opportunity as the home broadband penetration in the country is at 10 per cent.
