The government is learnt to have expressed its intention of becoming a ?party to the case? when the aggrieved companies in the 2G licence cancellation approach the Supreme Court (SC). As of now, the government has no plans to seek a review on the court?s order.
Recently, Idea Cellular and Videocon have filed petitions to the SC regarding the court’s decision on licence cancellation. Meanwhile, Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL), Uninor and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) are also planning to approach the court in this regard.
Further it has been reported that the former minister Raja may also file a review petition soon.
The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) in a recent presentation to the Prime Minister and senior Cabinet ministers has sought the SC?s approval for extending the deadline for completing auction process from four months to 13 months. During the presentation, the department had stated that the implication of the court?s order was ‘under study’.
