Vodafone India is planning to add 1,700 3G tower sites in Delhi and the national capital region in the next 12 months. Currently, the operator has 8,300 tower sites in Delhi which it plans to increase to 10,000.
The company is in the process of strengthening its telecom infrastructure in the city with a view to deliver an enhanced 3G user experience to its customers. Going forward, Vodafone India is expecting to increase its data revenues with high uptake of 3G services. In 2012, with an aim to make 3G services more affordable, Vodafone India had reduced 3G tariffs by up to 80 per cent.
For the quarter ended June 2013, Vodafone India reported a 29 per cent increase in mobile internet usage in comparison to the corresponding quarter in 2012. The company attributed the growth in data usage to an increasing number of data users coupled with higher usage per subscriber, particularly among 3G users. As of June 2013, Vodafone India?s total active data user base stood at 41.2 million, including about 3.7 million 3G subscribers.
