Vodafone and Nokia have launched a machine learning (ML)-powered product to detect and remediate network anomalies before they affect end-users.

The move comes after Nokia and Vodafone signed an agreement in 2020 to develop the new service using Nokia Bell Labs technology.

With the Anomaly Detection Service, Vodafone expects to automatically detect and resolve 80 per cent of its mobile network issues.

Further, Vodafone is rolling out the service across its pan-European network. The product detects and troubleshoots irregularities, such as mobile site congestion and interference, as well as unexpected latency, that can negatively impact customer service.

The product has been deployed on more than 60,000 4G sites in Italy and will be extended to all European markets by early 2022, Vodafone said.

The anomaly detection service running on Google Cloud allows streaming of network data to Vodafone’s data analytics platform, enabling analysis of data from multiple vendors at the same time.

Vodafone’s agreement with Google Cloud complements its six-year partnership with the telecom gear giant to help build cloud-based capabilities by integrating the capabilities of networking and software engineering.
