According to data from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), India saw a sharp rise in 5G base station (BTS) additions in March 2025, driven by Vodafone Idea Limited’s (Vi’s) initial 5G deployments.
The total number of installed 5G sites reached 4,74,000 by end-March, with 4,400 sites added during the month, which is well above the average of 2,600 additions recorded over the previous six months (September 2024 to February 2025).
Further, as the surge follows Vi’s 5G rollout, this momentum is expected to continue over the next six months as the operator expands its network across major cities.
