The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested that the entry fee and the performance bank guarantee (PBG) fee should remain unchanged for companies involved in managing mobile number portability (MNP) service. This comes after the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) sought recommendations from TRAI on levying additional entry fees and increasing PBG and financial bank guarantee (FBG) requirements to existing MNP licensees for enhancement of scope of their licence.

The regulator recommended that the existing PBG of Rs 10 million for the MNP service providers should be continued as per the prevalent licensing norms. It further added that an amount equal to 50 per cent of PBG may be kept till the end of their licence period, and any excess amount pending with DoT should be released immediately. The telecom regulator has also recommended that the existing FBG equivalent to licence fee for two quarters should be continued.
