Videocon Telecom is in talks with other operators for spectrum sharing arrangements in the Madhya Pradesh and Haryana circles.

Videocon is likely to pool its spectrum with another operator and allocate 5 MHz for 4G data and 5 MHz for 2G voice. Alternatively, it may upgrade its existing network to 4G and shift 2G voice on one of its partner operators. This will allow both Videocon as well as the other operator to offer 4G and 2G services on each other’s network. In the Punjab circle, however, the operator will be sharing spectrum with other companies to improve the quality of its 2G services.

The move comes after the Union Cabinet recently approved the guidelines for the sharing of spectrum, which were finalised by the Telecom Commission in June 2015. The Cabinet has permitted sharing of spectrum, but not leasing of spectrum. As per the guidelines, all spectrum will be eligible for sharing provided that both the licensees have the airwaves in the same frequency band.
