US-based Viasat Inc is planning to launch fast internet-from-space services in India. To this end, the geostationary satellite operator has sought government approval to deploy two new satellites in India.

These two satellites include Ka-band ViaSat-3 satellites which are currently under construction.  According to the company, Viasat’s satellites will run on the coveted 28 GHz band.

With this, the company looks forward to the opening of the Indian market to these advanced broadband connectivity solutions.

In a separate submission, Viasat has urged the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to disregard any attempts of India’s telcos to acquire this vital spectrum for 5G services, and strongly backed retaining the entire 28 GHz band for satellite broadband operations.
