TTSL is likely to apply for an NLD licence in January when the new licence fee of Rs 25 million takes effect. The other Tata company, VSNL, has both NLD and ILD licences and TTSL’s decision to enter the NLD market on its own is driven purely by the low-cost entry fee and the anticipated surge in demand in NLD services following the reduction in licence fees and revenue share to 6 per cent from 15 per cent.
