Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to release 4.4 MHz of start up spectrum for its GSM services in 39 districts across the country.
Prior to this, the Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) upheld an appeal by the company and asked DoT to allocate GSM spectrum to TTSL in Delhi. Prompted by this, TTSL has written to DoT requesting spectrum in other regions as well.
In a written correspondence to DoT, TTSL said, ?TDSAT has allowed our petition, thereby entitling us to GSM spectrum in Delhi and in 39 districts in nine circles immediately.?
DoT had put TTSL’s application under the new operator’s category. This category was queued behind the existing operator’s category for spectrum allocation. TDSAT upheld TTSL’s argument that it was an existing operator and, therefore, entitled to spectrum along with other dual technology players.
In the letter, TTSL added that, ?In case 4.4 MHz of GSM spectrum is not available in some districts, we request you to allocate available spectrum in those districts and allocate the balance as and when it becomes available.?
The company has sought spectrum in four districts in Uttar Pradesh (west) including Agra, Bareilly, and Nainital; six districts in Himachal Pradesh, two in Haryana, three each in Gujarat and West Bengal, 11 in Rajasthan, two in Punjab, five in Bihar and three in Uttar Pradesh (East).
