The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is examining the Department of Telecommunications? (DoT) recommendation to cancel the licences of 17 operators. TRAI is yet to send its response to DoT on this issue.
In 2010, TRAI recommended canceling the licences of 69 operators for not meeting roll-out obligation on time, while DoT reduced the list to 17 licences. Of the 69 licences, 20 were issued to Loop Telecom, 15 to Etisalat DB, 11 to Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited, 10 to Videocon, eight to Uninor and five to Aircel.
These licenses were issued under A. Raja in 2007-08.
