Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom is planning to extend its reach into the Southeast Asian market. The company is reportedly buying stake in two Vietnamese mobile carriers, Vinaphone and MobiFone, and is also looking to obtain a 3G licence in Thailand.

Chunghwa has already established a presence in the Vietnamese market having joined hands with Viettele in setting up ViettleCHU, an information data centre. Vietnam has so far issued four 3G licences to Viettle; Vinaphone, under the VNPTT Group; MobiFone; and EVE Telecom.
