As per industry sources, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is planning to come up with recommendations for improving telecom connectivity, especially with regard to 5G.
This move by the regulator is in response to the concerns that it might be difficult to get 5G coverage inside the building as signals will be transmitted on high frequencies which cover very small distances. There seems to exist problem in getting access to the buildings by the infrastructure providers, telecom service providers and other players. To this end the regulator claims to have prepared a consultation paper, which will soon be released with recommendations. This will require change in by-laws and working with the states very closely.
Meanwhile, the government has taken cognizance of network roll-out issues faced by telecom companies and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is working to resolve concerns of the telecom infrastructure companies. The government is also constantly endeavouring to subsidise the cost of operations of telecom services. In addition, the department is working on measures to enhance ease of doing business in the sector.
