The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reproached telecom operators for not complying with the regulatory guidelines issued by it pertaining to value added services (VAS).

According to TRAI, operators are yet to follow the set of directives related to VAS, issued in 2011. The directives were aimed at ensuring transparency in delivery of VAS services to subscribers.

TRAI had asked operators to seek consent of the subscribers before activating VAS services. However, operators are yet to fully comply with these guidelines.

TRAI has asked operators to take its directives seriously and has informed that heavy penalties would be charged in case of non-compliance.
