
As per the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) gained 1.25 million, 2.17 million and 0.049 million subscribers respectively, while Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) lost 0.54 million subscribers respectively month-on-month during March 2025. Meanwhile, the wireless subscriber base of Airtel, Jio and BSNL increased to 389.80 million, 469.76 million and 91.06 million respectively. In addition, Vi’s user base shrank to 205.35 million against 205.90 million.
Separately, Jio consolidated its market leadership in the wireline space in March 2025. TRAI data showed that Jio gained 0.14 million wireline users, increasing its landline user base to 12.85 million. Airtel added 0.06 million users, boosting its wireline user base to around 10.14 million. Meanwhile, BSNL and Vi lost 0.031 million and 0.005 million wireline users respectively.
Further, the month of March 2025 witnessed Jio and Airtel widening its wireless customer market share to 40.60 per cent and 33.69 per cent, up from 40.52 and 33.67, respectively, in the previous month. Furthermore, Vi and BSNL narrowed their customer base to 17.75 per cent and 7.87 per cent as against 17.84 per cent and 7.89 per cent respectively in February 2025.
Besides, TRAI data showed that Airtel, Jio and BSNL gained 1.91 million, 1.03 million and 0.03 million customers respectively in rural India for wireless. Meanwhile, Vi lost 0.42 million in these geographies. The data released by the regulator also showed that overall wireless tele-density decreased marginally to 85.04 per cent in March 2025 from 84.85 per cent in February 2025.
In the month of March 2025, 13.54 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 1105.39 million at the end of February 2025 to 1,118.94 million at the end of March 2025, since implementation of MNP.
