TRAI has stated that it is not in favour of fixing tariffs for mobile, landline and internet services. According to the regulator, Indian subscribers already enjoy the lowest call charges in the world.
Hence, tariffs should continue to be determined by market forces.
The standoff comes after the Ministry of IT and Communications asked TRAI to fix a minimum tariff for mobile services. According to IT and Communications Minister A. Raja, tariff fixation would benefit mobile subscribers to a great extent.
