
TRAI has released draft recommendations for internet protocol TV (IPTV) services. According to the recommendations, registered cable operators and telecom companies licensed to provide tripleplay services do not require a fresh licence to offer IPTV services.
Further, internet service providers (ISPs) with a net worth of more than Rs 1 billion are permitted to offer IPTV services and do not require a fresh licence. The draft further proposes that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of IT and Communications should regulate IPTV content.
