The Tata-DOCOMO joint venture (JV) is planning to invest about Rs 12 billion to roll out a 3G-compatible GSM network in the Kolkata, West Bengal and Bihar circles. The JV is also contemplating acquiring new mobile operators in the country. The company is planning to set up a research and development centre in India in order to customise some of its technology applications.

Meanwhile, NTT DOCOMO has also expressed interest in increasing its stake in Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) from the current 26 per cent, if the opportunity arises in the future.
