According to Juniper Research, the number of mobile subscribers on 4G networks is expected to more than double over the next two years. Driven by the growing deployment of long term evolution (LTE) networks, the number of 4G subscribers is expected to increase from 105 million in 2013 to 220 million in 2014.

Further, increasing availability of 4G-enabled handsets will also contribute to the increasing number of 4G users. In a majority of the markets, operators would be bypassing 3G to move to 4G. Further, operators would prefer providing 4G services over the time-division LTE platform as against the frequency division LTE platform owing to the lower cost of deploying the former technology.

Juniper Research expects 4G revenues to reach $340 billion globally by 2017, with 70 per cent of revenues coming from North America, China and the other Far Eastern markets.
