The ministry of rural development is going to provide funds worth Rs 206 billion for delivering e-governance services by utilising broadband services using the national optical fibre network (NOFN) project.
The ministry of rural development will provide this funding for 10 years. Meanwhile, an additional capital expenditure of Rs 39 billion will be provided by the Universal Services Obligation Fund. At the same time, Bharat Broadband Network (BBNL) currently responsible for providing bandwidth for the NOFN project will approach the government for obtaining a Category A pan-India internet service provider (ISP) licence. The ISP licence will enable BBNL to offer e-services through the NOFN network.
