The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore has launched a request for proposal (RfP) for an operating company for the country’s planned next-generation national broadband network (NBN). The operating company will design, build and operate the NBN’s active infrastructure. The network is expected to be available across Singapore by 2015. In December 2007, the IDA called for RfPs for the network company that will be responsible for building the physical networking infrastructure on which the operating company will be built. The operating company is required to be operationally separate from downstream operators. This will ensure open access and allow downstream players to obtain wholesale connectivity at non-discriminatory prices and conditions. The company will also be expected to meet the target of having 330,000 residential and 80,000 non-residential subscribers by 2015.
