Te Indonesian Telecommunication Regulatory Body is planning to evise its existing rules to permit all the existing Wi-Max licensees to upgrade their networks to mobile Wi-Max technology. Previously, mobile Wi-Max technology was banned in the country, limiting operations to the fixed Wi-Max standards. So far, Indonesia has awarded licences to eight companies to offer Wi-Max services in the 2.3 GHz band. However, operators are now demanding that the regulator expedite plans to remove some 2.5 GHz spectrum from satellite broadcasters and make it available for Wi-Max or LTE to promote 4G technology adoption in the country.
