Nokia is testing its servers in the country with the aim of providing the Indian government access to its corporate e-mail services, say news reports.

According to D. Shivakumar, vice president, Nokia India, the company feels that the government?s request in this regard is valid and the company is currently testing the servers with the concerned government agencies. He added that this process is likely to be completed in three months.

Expressing concerns over the possible use of encrypted services by undesirable elements, the Indian government has been demanding interception of encrypted services from all service providers, such as those offered by Canadian firm Research in Motion (RIM), in a readable format.

Though RIM has provided the government access to its messenger services, it has maintained that it cannot provide the government access to its corporate emails as it does not have the technological make-up to do so.
