The government has increased the radio wave fees for microwave access and backbone networks of GSM and CDMA operators beyond the sixth carrier (spectrum allocated for the sixth time for continuing services), with effect from November 3. Thus, for the seventh carrier, operators earlier paying 0.4 per cent of their aggregate gross revenue (AGR) will now have to fork out 1.85 per cent. The Telecom Commission has approved the hike.

However, the DoT has still not been able to decide on the proposal to levy a one-time charge on operators having over 6.2 MHz of spectrum.
