Initiating the process for implementing mobile number portability (MNP), DoT has invited bids from technology companies to set up the MNP system in the country. While existing telecom players will not be allowed to be MNP service providers, companies such as Telcordia, Tekelec, Nortel and Syniverse are likely to bid for MNP service provider licences. MNP is expected to be in place by June 2009.
