According to Ascentius Consulting, the email and collaboration software market in India is expected to grow from $62.8 million in 2012 to $62.8 million in 2012. The market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12.6 per cent per annum.

The key growth drivers of the market are replacement sales, emergence of the cloud-based delivery model and increasing adoption of legitimate software. The research firm states that on-premise license revenue is expected to decline from 81 per cent in 2012 to 73 per cent by 2015. As regards to the cloud-based delivery of software, Google and Microsoft are the leading players in India. Meanwhile, the license fee-based model is led by players such as Microsoft, IBM, Lotus Note and Novell.

Currently, 37 per cent of the software used in India is pirated. However, with organisations becoming aware of the disadvantages of using pirated software, a large number of businesses are expected to source software from trusted and authorised services. Going forward, investments in unified communications would also drive growth for upgrades and new email and collaboration licences.
