According to data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, the telecom sector received the maximum foreign direct investment (FDI) in the 10-month period between April 2014 and January 2015. The sector attracted FDI worth $2,832 million during the period. The sector had witnessed FDI of only $1,307 million during 2013-14. The cumulative FDI flowing into the sector since April 2000 till January 2015 stood at $16,995 million, which is about seven per cent of the total inflows recorded by the country.

Total FDI in the country, during the April-January period of 2014-15, reached $25.52 billion, increasing by 36 per cent, over FDI worth $18.74 billion received during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
