Telecom operators have opposed a proposal put forward by TRAI to have lower entry-level charges for rural mobile subscribers.

According to the operators, reduction of entry-level charges for mobile subscribers in rural and remote areas will lead to administrative/operational difficulties. They have further pointed out that such a move could lead to potential misuse as individuals would buy connections at lower rates from rural markets and use these in semi-urban or urban areas.
