
Telecom New Zealand is planning to cut-down about 1, 230 jobs and downsize its back office operations.
The operator is going to reduce the number of full-time employees from 7, 530 to about 6, 600. Employees will be laid off across functions like human resource management, finance, legal and corporate relations functions.
The operator is expecting to achieve restructuring costs of about NZ$70 million to NZ$80 million following the cutbacks. On completition of the downsizing exercise, the company?s payroll costs are expected to come down from current NZ$100 million to NZ$100 million.
Earlier, the operator scaled-back its Australian IT services operation Gen-i Australia. As part of the resizing exercise, the operator layed off two-thirds of its staff and will be focusing only on serving only large corporate customers.
