Telecom Italia (TI) has confirmed that its mobile operations and local network will not be split into two separate companies as announced earlier. Instead, it is planning to separate its local network from its other commercial activities, which may not involve the formation of a separate company. The statement did not mention what TI plans to do with Telecom Italia Mobile. Earlier, it was widely believed that a separation would result in the sale of large assets, which had caused a dispute between the company and the government, resulting in the resignation of Marco Tronchetti Provera, TI chairman. The company is also planning to build a “new-generation network” for its broadband and media services.
