According to Rahul Khullar, chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the telecom industry will witness consolidation in the near future, say news reports.
Khullar said that low mobile tariffs have impacted the profitability of telecom companies. So, he added that for the next three to four years, the industry’s margins will continue to be under pressure. To overcome this, operators will continue to attempt to raise funds.
Khullar is of the view that the currently, the segment is witnessing intense competition, especially with 14-15 players. For an industry to be competitive no more that four to five players are required.
