Over 200 guests attended the tele.net Telecom Operator Awards 2012, held at The Grand on March 28, 2012.
The chief guest at the ceremony was Dr J.S. Sarma, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Some of the prominent industry leaders present were Akhil Gupta, Deputy Group CEO and Managing Director, Bharti Enterprises, R.K. Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director, BSNL, T.V. The winners of the 14 categories have been selected on the basis of an extensive survey conducted amongst a carefully selected group of industry professionals, sector experts and key consumers. The event was co-sponsored by Comptel and IMIMobile.
Bharti Airtel won awards in four major categories- Best National Mobile Operator, Best Enterprise Service Provider, Best VAS Provider and Best Ad Campaign by an Operator. Besides, Akhil Gupta, Deputy Group CEO and Managing Director, Bharti Enterprises won the Outstanding Contribution to the Sector award.
Vodafone India won in three categories- Most Admired Telecom Operator, Best 3G Operator and Telecom CEO of the Year 2011, which was bagged by Marten Pieters, Managing Director, Vodafone India.
Meanwhile, BSNL emerged as the winner in the Best National Fixed line Operator category and Best Broadband Operator category.
Tata Communications bagged the award for the Best Long Distance Operator, while Hughes Communications emerged as the Best VSAT Operator. Indus Towers won the Best Infrastructure Provider award and Tata Teleservices Limited bagged the Operator Offering the Best QoS award.
