
Global telecom infrastructure provider UTStarcom is targeting a market share of 50 per cent in India in 2015. To this end, the company is focusing on the Wi-Fi segment in India, and has developed strategic plans for the government-led initiatives such as the National Optical Fibre Network and Smart Cities. The company has been exploring new avenues for partnering with the government to service the demand of the ‘Indian Digital Highway’ in the country. Also, the company believes that it has good prospects of growth in India owing to the surge in smartphone penetration and the expectations around 4G deployments.
Further, it is also planning to work with telecom operators and service providers to improve their network efficiency and help them offer an array of entertainment options, programming features, and mobility. UTStarcom has customers such as Bharti Airtel, both the state-run operators, Reliance Communications and Tata Communications. Earlier in 2014, it was awarded a network enhancement contract by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
Commenting on company?s growth plans for India market, William Wong, UTStarcom’s Chief Executive Officer said, ?The Company will continue to commit to existing customers, diversify its customer base, and enter new markets by promoting its global expertise and deployments of suite of its broadband products. With the new government and favourable policy initiatives, Indian telecom sector has become the global hotspot for newer trends and innovation. Saying that, UT Starcom is definitely going to be a well-suited partner for national initiatives like smart cities, Wi-Fi deployment, NOFN etc in near future.?
