The Telecom Consultants of India (TCIL) has stated that the work under the Network for Spectrum (NFS) project in Rajasthan, Uttarakand and Uttar Pradesh will be completed by March 2015. The NFS project being implemented by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is aimed at setting up networks exclusively for the defence forces. The armed forces will migrate all their communication needs to this optic-fibre network and will free more bandwidth for commercial telephony services.
Earlier, TCIL had secured the Rs 20 billion engineering, procurement and construction contract from BSNL of the NFS project. As per the terms of the contract, TCIL is responsible for the procurement, trenching, laying, installation and maintenance of 9,568 kilometers of optic-fibre cable in Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The cost of procurement and installation is about Rs 14.48 billion while the cost of maintenance of the network for 10 years is about Rs 5.52 billion.
