Tata Communications has secured a major deal from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to deploy a high-capacity, long-distance network aimed at strengthening generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) adoption and cloud innovation across India.

The planned network will span 18,000 km and offer a capacity of nearly 7.2 terabits per second (Tbps). It will connect three key AWS infrastructure regions including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai, and involves a capital investment of approximately Rs 4.3 billion.

The initiative will create a national long-haul infrastructure backbone tailored for advanced AI and machine learning (ML) workloads. By leveraging Tata Communications’ network, AWS aims to accelerate the development of GenAI applications and AI model training with significantly improved speed and efficiency for Indian enterprises.
