The Tamil Nadu government has proposed to establish the India Centre for Advanced Manufacturing in Chennai, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF). The centre aims to foster national and international collaboration in advanced technologies and support companies with their innovation, sustainability, and research and development (R&D) endeavors.

The announcement was made at a public-private discussion hosted by the Tamil Nadu government and the WEF. Technology adoption and innovation, industry academia engagement, and sustainable production were the key focus areas of the discussion. The discussion garnered participants from different sectors including electronics, automobile and general manufacturing along with government body representatives.

The main goal of the centre is to support high-end innovation, new business models, and digital transformation for manufacturing companies in Tamil Nadu. It will also promote industry-academia collaboration to drive innovation, workforce upskilling, and R&D.
